I am trying to rest set my password i can't seem to log in iCloud

My dad did an update and now cannot get into is iPad at all I have come to the screen to where it asks to change password and then says it's been sent to email or iCloud not sure if both are the same or not

There was no clue to what email they had sent it?
Probably it is on the email you use to setup your phone. It might be an icloud, gmail, yahoomail.
