Why is it taking so long for my documents to upload to iCloud Drive in Sierra?

When I upgraded to Mac OS Sierra, I selected the option to sync my documents and desktop folders to iCloud Drive. More than a month later some of the documents are still uploading to iCloud. When I make changes to documents on my MB Pro, it does not sync to iCloud due to the backlog. Is it hung up or should it take this long? Not sure what to do now. Thanks for any suggestions.

Stop the backup and restart the backup again. If that doesn't work, reboot your MAc and try it then.
