understanding how to use icloud

I know things are saved in the cloud, but what I don't get is how can I take my pics from my iphone and save them to my desktop so I can delete them from the phone to free up some storage?.
Also in the cloud how do I look at ALL my pics and delete the ones I don't want, and are the pics there from my iphone and ipad.
I'm not sure what to do here.
My main goal is to clean everything up to free up some storage.

Connect your iPhone to your desktop computer and either drag and drop the pics onto it or transfer the pics to your desktop computer via iTunes.

Via the Photos app on your iPhone, select "Albums". After that, select "All Photos" to view all of your photos. From there, you can select the ones you want to keep and delete the ones you don't.
