What is covering my iphone space?

I opened the storage & icloud usage in settings , it showed that available storage is 5.1 gb and only 560 mb was remaining but the space covered by apps and document was only about 2 gb....then where has my 3 gb space been covered??

iOS takes up space as well.

It is true that the OS itself takes up some of your available space, but not usually 3GB. Try rebooting your phone and checking to see if the cache has cleared. Also, delete web history.
