iphone 5 won't turn on?

Hi i have an iPhone , the battery drained and i put it on charge the battery logo appeared, showing it was charging, but it has been on charge all night and will not turn on, it just continuously shows that it is charging. what has happened and how can I do to make it turn on again?

While connected to wall socket, press and hold both the power and home buttons until you see the  logo.
