System Memory taking up 255GB, how do I delete that to free up space?

So, I had transferred my movies and shows from iTunes to my external hard drive. Before I had done that, I think I may have consolidated my files somewhere other than my hard drive. After that, it shows that my System Memory is taking up 255GB! I chatted with a couple of Apple Geniuses, and had added the Mac HD to the Privacy tab of Spotlight, then take it off Spotlight, but that didn't work. They then said that I would have to reinstall the operating system, but would that delete the movies I have downloaded on iTunes?

It depends on the installation. If you're simply going to overwrite a previous installation then it shouldn't delete your data. Having said that, if you opt to reformat the HD during the re-installation then yes, everything will be deleted.
