By inside of your wrist do you mean on the underside of your wrist so that you'll have to turn it over to view? If so, that'll work but I'd personally think you'd be more prone to damage wearing it that way.

I wear my watch both ways depending on whether I am at work or not. It does have trouble figuring out when you turn your wrist to read the time. You will often have to tap it. Although Apple specifically says the watch should be on the outside of the wrist for the sensors to work, I measured heart rate and got a reasonable rate plus all else seemed fine. Setting aside the risk of banging the face on things, it doesn't do any actual harm from what I can tell.
