Messages in Sierra is running slow and draining battery quickly - anyone else having this issue?

Since installing macOS Sierra I've noticed my fan on all the time, Messages seems to be the culprite. My battery drains in just a couple of hours now. Anyone else having see this issue?

Battery icon in Menu bar shows Messages as 'Apps Using Significant Energy)
Activity Monitor shows callservicesd and soagent along with Messages as consuming massive CPU, energy, etc.

what's wrong?

Do you have any other accounts signed in with messages (google, etc.)? I leave mine on constantly and don't have any battery drain issues. What year/model laptop are you using?
