How do you delete folders in Notes? Hint: They keep coming back

I created some folders, then moved the contents to more appropriate folders and now would like to delete the empty folders.

I've tried using iPhone/iPad/MacBook Pro/MacBook Air and iCloud web interface.

Any ideas?

Welcome to iMore! I just tap edit, Mark it, hit delete. Doesn't come back. You don't have the folders linked to more than one place do you? Like both gmail and iCloud for example. I only use iCloud in Notes. Also, after you delete the folders, do a hard reset.
Hold the top or side power/sleep button and the home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears, then release.
