When you say "other carriers" is there one it will accept? If yes, you need to contact them to unlock your device.

The fastest and easiest way to figure out which carrier your iPhone is locked to is to put the SIM card it came with back in the phone. Then go to Settings, then to Carrier. After that you'll have to contact the carrier to get an unlock code, which may have a cost, I usually see about $100.

Sounds like this MAY be a device purchased from a 3rd party. You will need to check with the person you purchased the device from, and ask them which carrier its locked to.

If this was a friend-to-friend or 3rd party purchase, you'll need to contact the current carrier the device is on (several examples above on how to find out that information) and have them unlock it so you can use it with another carrier.
