Picture not showing up in iMessage from Android phone - ios 10

I updated my 6s to ios 10 yesterday and so far everything seems pretty good. That is until I received a MMS message from someone who does not have an iPhone (they have Android) and it showed up as a black box in the message. I had my girlfriend send me an imessage picture from her iphone and it worked fine.

So does anyone know why I can't view pictures now that come from someone who does not have iMessage and instead is sending a standard SMS or MMS?
