Why did updating my phone change the way I reply to a text on my lock screen

My phone updated to iOS 10 and the option to reply to a text without unlocking my phone is now gone. When I swipe left, all I can do is clear the message. Sometimes I can touch it correctly to where the one message that was just sent pops up into a message blurb, but that happens once in a blue moon. Is there a way to fix my "view" option that uses to be there?
