So the ***** inside me got mad and hit my MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 a big strong causing an HDD failure and I can no longer boot into it with disk utility (based on installation USB) says SMART error on HDD and that it needs to get replaced.

Which do you think will be better for me? A 5400 RPM SSHD with 8 GB SSD portion, or a 7400 RPM HDD?

My usage:
Basic browsing using Safari
Streaming to YouTube Live / Facebook Live using Wirecast
Watching videos at 720, 1080 and 2K
Playing Star Craft II

I would go full SSD - actually I did for my MacBook Pro late 2011. I bought a Crucial MX200 500 GB version on Amazon.

I did the SSD and added 16 GB of Crucial RAM - my MacBook Pro flies. Like a different computer. Highly recommend it.

Here is the Crucial page for your computer .

Crucial I trust. what I do is look up what I want on Crucial for a particular computer, copy the Crucial part number and then just paste that part number in at Amazon. Amazon is usually cheaper and I have Prime shipping so it comes in 2 days.

But definitely go SSD. You won't believe it is the same computer. My MBP boots up faster than my iPhone.
