Whats the best way to erase my personal contacts /pics etc. If i use "erase all content & settings" does my passcode still remain the same or does it default to something

Erase all content and settings does just that, but there are some additional steps to take if you plan on selling your old iPhone 4s. Below you'll find an Apple support page to get you started.

Hello! In addiction to what the guide says, I'd also advise, after erasing all the content, to perform a DFU reset (similar to a factory reset) of your device. Basically, you just have to plug your phone to the PC/Mac, put it into DFU mode and restore the firmware. Most importantly, before doing anything, as said in the Apple guide linked, deactivate Find my iPhone, to avoid activation problems with the new owner
