I had my ex boyfriends name saved as something other than his name and then suddenly I check my phone and it shows that his name is changed to what it was before which is his initials. Why did this happen? I don't have iCloud synced with anything and it only happened to his name.

Welcome to iMore! It was either changed on your device or it somehow synced with an old version of the contact. You don't have your contacts backed up anywhere? What groups are showing up in your Contacts app when you tap on "Groups" in the upper left corner?

i dont have my contacts backed up anywhere and the contact was only apart of my hotmail group. isnt it strange that it only happened with this one persons name and not more? i changed their name a few months ago.. why would it change back to the initials i had originally saved them as

Hotmail must have messed up the name on their end. Check your hotmail contacts on a desktop to see if the name is still the same as how you've edited it on your iPhone.
