Can I take a screen shot on my iphone while it is in a phonesuit charging case?

Have iphone 6, tried to take my first screen shot and its not working. I'm wondering if its because the phone is in a charging case and therefore the sleep/wake button is not actually the button on the phone but rather the one on the case (in same spot though)

Also, look in your Photos app to see if the screenshot worked.
