How do I use my icloud back up and free up space on my iPad Air 2

Hi my name is Troy Matheny and I am trying to back up my iPad I'm not quite sure how to unload them to the iCloud storage of messed with it messed with it and I'm not sure if I still have a bright and I deleted a bunch of pictures thinking you're going the iCloud so hopefully they did

Welcome to iMore! Don't delete your pictures. iCloud is not a storage option. It's a back up option. It backs up what is currently on your device. If you delete photos from the camera roll, they are also deleted from iCloud with the next back up. If you want more storage space on your iPad, upload photos to cloud based apps like Box and Dropbox. Then delete from the camera roll. Or put them on your computer. If you have deleted photos you backed up to iCloud, you will need to restore your iPad and set up with the iCloud back up to get them back. Until then, turn auto back up off in Settings.
