I've had problems with AirDrop from time to time as well. Usually when I have problems one device can see the other usually not the one I want to send to. You can try turning on AirDrop for All instead of just known contacts. Just be sure to turn it off after you're done. Also you can try sending any pic from the device, for example an iPad, that can see the other one, example iPhone. Once the image arrives on the iPhone the sending device or the iPad should become discoverable from the iPhone.
