Why can't my i-phone recognize my password log-in!

So I'm trying to run a back up on my iphone. The phone asks with to log in using my Apple ID. I type it in and it repeatedly comes back with: "Verification Failed There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server. Cancel or Try Again". Of course, I try again and repeatedly get this message on my phone. Now, I can go to my Ipad and have no issues logging in with my Apple ID. Any suggestions to get logged in from my Iphone??

Is this an Internet connection issue with the phone? All I want to do is transfer my pictures/video to the i-cloud!! Can't because of this darn logging in issue!!

Reboot the iPhone and then try again.
