Which Mac notebook should I get?

My old MacBook Pro (a 2011 model with 16GB RAM) died and I want to replace it with another notebook. I'm an illustrator and work mostly with layered vector images in Adobe Illustrator. My preference is for the MacBook over another MacBook Pro, but want to make sure it will be powerful enough to cope with my workload before I choose it. Thanks in advance!
