Why did my iPod touch battery drain completely overnight?

Last night I charged my iPod touch (6th generation) to 100% and I used it for a while and I fell asleep when the battery was around 90%. My iPod was on when I fell asleep but in the morning when I woke up, my iPod was warm and the battery was at 20% or less. I don't know how and why that happened. It never did that before. All apps were closed when I went to sleep. Why did my iPod go from 90% to 20% overnight? Was it malware or faulty hardware? It never did that before.

None of us can know why your battery drained overnight. Having said that, it's possible that you left an app running the entire time or it could be that your battery is weak and in need of replacement. Make a Genius Bar appointment with the nearest Apple Store to have them check it out for you.
