My gmail.com just disappeared. When I open notes icon, I get a folder page

Swipe down on your home screen to reveal the spotlight search function, and then enter "notes" in the search field.

Have you checked your Gmail in the mail app. Be sure Gmail is toggled OFF for notes in Settings. Then check the Notes folder in your Gmail mail. See if your notes are there. If they are there, go back to Settings and toggle Notes ON in Gmail. They should then show in the Notes app.
