How do I unlock or bypass AT&T sim card activation screen on my iphone 5s?!?!

Ok so i purchased an iphone 5s and it was supposed to be unlocked and be able to use with any carrier. That isn't the case though! So not only am I brand new to the iphone world but now I cant even get past the initial set up screen!! It keeps telling me to insert an active sim card. I do have the AT&T sim card and a new sim card with my service on it. But in the meantime can someone PLEASE help!!!! Thanks

If the iPhone is locked to another carrier then you may need to insert a SIM card from that particular carrier.

I understand that you have an AT&T SIM card. What is not clear to me is the wireless carrier that the iPhone may be locked to. If it is locked to AT&T, go to the nearest AT&T Store and have them swap out the SIM card or activate it. If the iPhone is locked to another carrier, you will need to use an activated SIM card from that carrier or get the device unlocked.
