    Usually when I press the settings button the page goes to settings and gives me several options...for example wifi connection/brightness etc. However, when I hit the settings button nothing comes up on the screen.

    Try a hard reset. Hold your power and home button together until you see the Apple logo. Hopefully this will solve the issue for you. Thanks!
