What are the benefits of iCloud Drive?

What are the benefits of iCloud Drive ? how much space does it take up,and does everyone use it? I have never turned it on because of purported security risks.
Does all the garbage (advertising) associated with an app get stored too?

I haven't found it useful yet. Only 2 apps show in it. I wish it were more like Dropbox.
