Welcome to iMore! Are you getting an error message when you try to log in to iTunes? What exactly is happening? Your apps are probably gone because you're not logged in. I doubt AppleTV software updates have anything to do with this and haven't experienced an issue myself.
If the problem persists you can always restore through iTunes if you happen to have a USB-C cable lying around. Worst case, you're still covered under Apple's warranty.
