Voice Memos stop playing in background

Ever since the update to 9.2 whenever I listen to a memo sent by a friend and I try to go out to make notes from listening to their memo , it stops playing all together.

Welcome to iMore! I sent a voice memo to myself in iMessage. Tested every which way. Works fine. Sent it to email, and it did ok there. Where did you have the memo? Was it in iMessage?

Thank you. I'll try those methods as well but yes the memo is in iMessage when I try to listen to it in the background

Not sure I understand what you mean by "listen in the background".

I don't recall voice memos ever working in the background. But here's a workaround. You sure it was the stock voice memos?

1. Start the recording.
2. Lock the screen (without pressing anything else) - this way your recording continues to play.
3. Double press the home button. (the camera icon will appear on bottom right)
4. Open the camera.
5. Press the home button - and now you can do anything while the memo continues playing.

An even easier way - in iOS 11 beta haven’t tried anywhere else - in the voice memo sharing menu create a note in notes app - play from note - press home
