Is Applecare worth the extra purchase?

I

iMore Question

I just purchased a 6S and am contemplating purchasing the AppleCare+ since I will most likely keep my phone for more than 1 year.

I recommend it, but a lot of people go without it. Accidents happen though sometimes no matter how careful a person can be. I get it on all my Apple devices. For the couple times I've needed it, it was nice to have. You spend a lot on these devices today. Why not have peace of mind to go with it.

I've never purchased it. But I always use an Otterbox for protection. I don't get out a lot. Home most of the time on carpet. I've never dropped a iPhone other than a 2' drop on carpet. Your needs may be different.

I had a defective battery just at the year mark with my iPhone 5. I brought it in right before the year was up, but was told it was OK. When the phone started to die at 20%, I brought it in again and was told the battery was indeed defective, but they couldn't replace it for free because I was passed the standard warranty. I eventually got it replaced due to the reason I mentioned above, but it took several hours and a few calls with Apple to get it sorted out.

That is when I decided I would apply it to me and my wife's phone so that it doesn't happen again. To me it's worth the price just for piece of mind. I also got it on my iMac because that's one expensive piece of equipment.

It's worth it to some and not to others. I'm very active and I don't like keeping a bulky case on my phones. Even more, I have two young kids. Wreck a device one time without it and you'll probably be wishing you had invested the extra money.

I've never purchased AppleCare. I don't need, I've never dropped an iPhone. I'm careful and very lucky I guess.

It's a game of chance :)

We have been lucky, no dropped or water logged phones BUT in a hurry one day, this one was left on top of the car while trying to get the kids to stop touching each other and sit quietly while getting in to go to a birthday party. I was at the car dealer getting service done when I got a call from an unknown number -- it was my wife borrowing someone's phone.

I was able to use find my iPhone to locate it before it was eventually destroyed and lost signal.

I don't get the story. And that burned phone is not an iPhone, nor an iPhone in a case. Do you walk into Apple Store with other brand damage phones and come out with a replacement due to you having apple care?

1. It was an iPhone 5 in a Speck Fabshell case.
2. Wasn't burned, it was run over by cars as it was in the road.
3. Yes, with AppleCare+ I walked out with a new one. I think we had to pay $79? It's been a while.

I dunno! Looks more like an S4. JustSayin'

I don't know what that looks like.

Back panel was intact - they were able to verify the serial and replace. The case protected the print on the back, the trick was getting it out of the case to look at it and not get cut or possibly burned by any chemicals inside.

It's an iPhone clear as day if you ask me. @robertk328 is probably one of the last people on here that would make a false claim.

Interesting.
I could be wrong, but that broken phone is no iPhone. It have buttons like Samsung phones, and it has a 2mm high border that can not be found on any iPhone 5
And there is no way that the uplayer glass of the iPhone would leave away leaving behind the display because the actual display and the glass protector are one unit screw together. I mean, I could not be wrong.
Check the images bellow to compare with:

Ah... and the display dimensions of the broken phone does not match iPhone 5 display dimensions (bezels not included) i cloud try to reach my Mac and do proper measurement of that broken screen, but not necessary. It's pretty much visible that it display is shorter than iPhone 5 display which is more longer.
I did get the point with AC, it's definitely a good insurance for our pricy iDevices in deed.

You are wrong and I've told you as such. It was an iPhone 5. The border is from the case. It has no buttons but the one in the center. The glass was not removed but rather shattered from being run over. A tear down with screwdrivers and suction cups are nowhere near the same as going under a car (or truck) tire.

Regardless of whether you believe it is an iPhone or not (this will be the last I respond to you on this -- I don't appreciate being called a liar), AppleCare+ replaced the iPhone for the usual deductible ($49, as I found the receipt in gmail) after removing the case. You can google Speck Fabshell for iPhone 5 if you feel you need to measure the border on it.

This is just one example but to me the AppleCare+ price is peanuts for the peace of mind it provides.

edit: here are the receipts and my Facebook photos with the same date and store location data. Enjoy.
