What are some good alternatives to iPhoto for photo organization?

I want to import photos from my iPhone camera roll onto my MacBook once or twice a week and move them into folders 1 by one as I see fit.

I have folders already set up such as family, friends, work, etc... and I want to control where my imported photos are placed.

iTunes should be able to handle that for you, I think.
