You answered your own question. Having said that, connect the device to your computer and then initiate the computer's iTunes app to restore it. That is your only course of action.

Its never easy getting locked out of your device hopefully you weren't far away or on a road trip when it happened. I would use Touch ID on the iPad Air 2 so you don't have to recall the password. You can set up multiple Touch ID's so if you have others users who can access your iPad they can without needing the password.
