why do my pictures duplicate themselves

my phone will make 2 or more copies of the same picture and scatter them around in my camera roll, is there any way to make that stop

Try switching off the photo stream feature.

Go into Camera and turn off HDR which does what you are saying to give you the option of what pic you want to keep or delete.

You might turn off "save normal copy". When you use HDR, it will make a second normal copy. Turn it off if desired.
