When.u click new message....then instead of putting a contact in to text you just simply put the @ symbol and a list of numbers or contacts come up what does that mean? Is that just like frequently messaged numbers or people you talk to the most or what?

It means you choose the one you want from the list. You can enter one letter and get a similar list.
