my phone doesn't make a sound when i get an incoming text or message. What can I do?

Have you gone into settings>sounds to make sure you have the messages configured to play a sound? You should also check to see if your phone has been put on silent. There is a switch above the volume controls. Make sure you do not see an orange line. The orange line indicates that the phone is on silent.

And make sure it's not in "Do Not Disturb" mode. You'll see a little crescent-moon icon in your status bar if it is.

You can also try performing a hard reset by holding both the sleep/wake button and the home button down until you see the Apple boot logo. Works more often than not.
