I followed suggestion about earbuds but my iPhone6 is still in headphone mode.

Since nobody else knows what advice you were given it might help if you can give that info here for help.
We would be happy to assist you after that but until you might want to go up to the iMore search and just put in stuck headphones - earbuds and I found quite a bit before I suggested it.

I haven't experienced this, but I've read on other forum threads that you may be able to overcome this by plugging and unplugging the buds from the phone a few times. Sometimes that phone doesn't register that it has been pulled out.
