Go to settings > sounds and make sure you have a text tone selected. Also make sure your volume isn't turned all the way down. Are you getting other notifications sounds (i.e. emails, phone calls)? Do you have a Bluetooth device connected inadvertently? Did you try restarting your phone?

    Three things to check:
    1. Make sure you have a sound enabled for text messages.
    2. Make sure your volume is up to the point that you can hear the alert.
    3. Make sure the mute switch is not on. On the left side of the phone, above the volume rockers, make sure the switch is forward, towards the front of the camera. There is a red/orange indicator that is visible if the phone is set to MUTE/SILENT. If you see any red or orange, flip the switch.
