How do i retrieve a bunch of lost contacts on my iphone5?

I suddenly lost many of my contacts about 8 months ago on my iphone 5. Is there any way to retrieve them?

How did you lose them? If you merely disabled the sync button next to Contacts in the Mail settings, simply toggle the button to sync them again. If you deleted them from your device, but they are still online via your mail account, reconfigure the account and enable the button next to Contacts. If you deleted them from the device and/or from your mail account online, consider your contacts permanently deleted. By the way, if you created a backup of your iPhone then there's a good chance those contacts can be restored when you restore that backup.
