View sent and received iMessages from someone elses account?

Our son is reportedly (from community members) engaging is delinquent behavior. He communicates mostly via text and iMessage. Can I add an account so that me or my wife can see his incoming and outgoing messages? I have an iPad, my wife has an iPhone. I know this sounds bad, but he is only 16 and we are concerned.
