Why is Safari going so slow on OS X Snow Leopard?

I

iMore Question

Ok, so it's 2015 and I'm working with an older iMac running snow leopard. Safari is giving me all kinds of trouble.
It'll open webpages... After a good 20 minutes. I don't know what it could be. I've tried every other solution on the Internet: turning it off and back on, deleting the Library->safari folder, creating a new user account, using a different DNS, resetting the router, crying, asking God for answers... The whole 9 yards. It feels like the only solution is a different browser, but there isn't another one installed. I'm waiting the hour for the chrome download page to come up to try that... Any other suggestions? (besides a new computer, daddy didn't like that one!)

How much RAM does the iMac have? Are you running something in the background like an anti-virus/adware/malware app?
