I want to download free books or stories. Then save them in Ipad Air. What steps should I follow?

Where do you want to download them from? You can get free books via numerous sources.

Book can either be installed as .epub via iTunes and read via iBook, or if you have kindle app you can install to the kindle app but it is more convoluted to do the later, I would stick with .epub as they can be dragged and dropped on to iTunes and will appear in iBooks, .pdf books and magazines can also be installed same way to iBooks.
