I was surprised to find iPhoto unavailable. I've updated my Yosemite, but can't find the Photo app anywhere.

Have you attempted a Spotlight search?

I believe that I had to install it from the App Store. I am sticking with iPhoto until someone makes it easier to get at your photos individually at the file level. Apple continues to attempt to trap you into their software and take away access. I was also disappointed that it duplicates the iPhoto's library if you want to use the full features.

It is a nice app, but I wish they would just let go of controlling my files.

If you click on launch pad in the dock you should be able to find the Photos app. Photos was part of a Yosemite update.
