    AppleCare+ does not cover lost or stolen devices.
    Carrier plans may cover lost or stolen devices.
    AppleCare+ is a one time premium, plus deductibles when you use it to replace your phone.
    Carrier plans charge monthly premiums, plus deductibles when you use it to replace your phone.

    It depends on "your" needs. Each have their pros & cons.
