Regarding Find My iPhone, what does the number in parentheses represent?

Question - on our find my iphone, after my sons number is (2) Just wondering what the (2) means, it was not there yesterday

What do you mean "after my son's number"? Does the Find My iPhone app not display the "name" of your son's device?

it has his name as usual but then after that there is a (2) after it...and that is not on any of our other devices

Does he have any other devices?

I got that after I restored my my phone as new. I went to Settings>General >About > changed the name back the way it was.

That is interesting. I’ve had my iMac/MacBook Pro change names with the (number) appended, but I’ve never had an iPhone/iPad do it.

Yep. I had my phone's name as Led's iPhone 5. But after restoring, it went to iPhone (2). They are all iPhone by default.
