While on a phone conversation and a text comes in, what do I need to do to read and respond to the text if necessary.
Push the home button and then go to messages.

Use headphones or the speaker phone for the conversation so the screen and keyboard are available for responding to the text.
Tapping speakerphone before pressing the home button allows you to keep talking while performing other things on your device. Your call can be accessed by tapping the active Blue bar on the top of your screen
