How do I send private messages to facebook friends form my I pad?

I am trying to get to the point that I can send private messages to friends from my I pad?

Have you tried using Facebook Messenger?

As Bigeric suggests, you will need to have the Facebook Messenger app installed. Then Messages will show on the Facebook app as well.
