Technophobe!...How do I get Facebook, etc. on my 3GS?

Hi, I am a total ar*e when it comes to technology/phones, etc...but Ive just been given an Iphone 3GS, and when Im trying to put FACEBOOK, and EBAY apps onto it, it telling me something about needing IOS 7.0 or something like that?
PLEASE, PLEASE, someone help me?!
Mind you, forgive me in advance, but any advice would have to be explained to me TOTALLY IN DETAIL!!

The iPhone 3GS is not capable of loading or running iOS7. So... you can't really do much with it.

You can Access Facebook and eBay from Safari online. Just log in.
