    I just want to take a photo, crop it and still keep the original. In essence , I want two photos, the original & the cropped version.

    Yes, you can. After you've cropped the photo, save it or export it with a different name. For example, if the original photo is labeled "Photo", save or export the cropped photo as "PhotoCrop". By doing so, you are preserving the original while also enjoying the cropped version.

    If I use the photos app cropper, I text the photo to myself or insert it in the Notes app. Then go back and crop it. But I do most cropping in Camera+.
