As far as I understand, placing my photo library on a NAS wasn't really supported by iPhoto (it was possible to get it to work, but it wasn't reliable). What's the situation with Photos for Mac? If I don't have enough local space and don't want to use iCloud Photo Library, can I then put my photos on my NAS (Synology)?

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link, but I'm not sure it completely answers my question regarding NAS. Using an external drive seems fine (which it also was for iPhoto), but a NAS doesn't (as far as I understand) use Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which was needed for iPhoto. So I'm wondering if Photos for Mac is more "open" to different file systems?
