    I can't hear person I'm facetiming but he can hear me. I tried every suggestion on forums etc. but nothing was amiss in my settings, updates all made. Also can't hear ringing when I call.

    I think that it's a microphone issue. You can follow this guide to troubleshoot external mic issues http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5183. It is for the iPhone but the same basic principles apply. You can find Apple's tech specs here to see exactly where your iPad model's microphones are located. http://support.apple.com/specs/
