Dropped WiFi Connection

If I am in my house on WiFi and get in the car I know the phone has switched to cellular data. If I go to the Y and logon to their WiFi I may look 30 mins later and I am using cellular data, my connection got dropped and I am unaware. Now I am using cellular data which is costly vs free WiFi.

Is there a way to get a notification when this happens and I can make an informed decision

Caveat emptor...observe... There's no alert or app I know of to alert you when a wifi connection drops.

I had that issue at the hospital. They had a weak wifi signal. I had to keep an eye on the status bar.
