So my wife's Lumia 925 died last night. And she has finally agreed to give the iPhone 5S sitting around since October 2014 a try. I am trying to find a good way to import all of the contacts from the Outlook.com account. Any tips on how to best accomplish this without installing iTunes on my computer? Thanks for your help in advance.

Simply set up the iPhone to the outlook account - and set up contact sync. Settings>> Mail, Contacts, Calendars>> Add Account>> Outlook.com>> Enter the userID and password...

Thanks and thereafter if I don't want to use the Apple default mail app, what are my options? The outlook app is much better than the default mail app IMO.

You can set the stock app to only sync contacts if you want to use the Outlook app for mail... in the set-up, you can turn on/off mail, contacts, and calendars individually.
